Poverty and Inclusive Development, New approaches and challenges

26-27 April 2016 – Toulon
LEAD (joint research unit Cnrs-University of Toulon) organised a workshop on Poverty and inclusive growth: New approaches and emergent issues in partnership with GDRI IDE.  More than 20 research papers were presented within the 2 days workshop.
Paolo Verme (Senior Economist, World Bank) gave an inaugural lecture where he presented his book The Welfare of Syrian Refugees : Evidence from Jordan and Lebanon.
The mixed review of the United Nations Millenium Development goals (MdGs), expiring by the end of 2015, was discussed during the workshop. The participants broadened the debate into the theoretical reflection and study of the different geographical realities of poverty.
Taking in count the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – defined in “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” and adopted in September 2015 by the UN General Assembly) – the participants investigated the interactions between poverty and development. The presentations analysed the strategies and development models that could reduce poverty efficiently.
